The Ford GT40 was a key protagonist in the Ford-Ferrari wars of the 1960s.  Winning four times consecutively at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1966-1969 made it a motorsports icon.

After two years of secret development, Ford unveiled a modern Ford GT to demonstrate the company’s capabilities in 2015. Racing provided the ultimate proof statement, highlighted by GTE Pro class victory at Le Mans in June 2016. The Ford GT outpaced Ferrari for the honors – exactly 50 years after the GT40’s first Le Mans win.

2019 Ford GT Carbon Series PosterRoad car production started with the 2017 model year. The Ford GT road car is a thinly disguised version of the race car. Both were designed simultaneously and are very similar. The road car is actually more powerful and features active aerodynamics that are not permitted on the race car.  Specialist engineering and racing firm Multimatic manufactured each car by hand, producing one per day.  Ford placed road cars with enthusiasts of the marque through an application process.

This “Carbon Series” example shaves 40 pounds from the standard Ford GT by using weight saving measures like carbon fiber wheels, a titanium exhaust, and a thinner polycarbonate rear hatch.  Visually, exposed carbon fiber and color accents set it apart.  This 2019 Carbon Series Ford GT is approximately the 380th Ford GT produced of the second-generation road cars.
